If Only You Were White...

"Hey, bitch, thank your grandpa for my nice cotton shirt."

I just read this very boggywoggy story on the Washington Post about the controversial rape case against Duke Lacrosse Players accused of raping a poor black woman who is an adult student at the North Carolina Central University. The "27-year-old NCCU student told police she was raped by three Duke University lacrosse players". But, they have denied the allegations.

The racists say Whites cannot rape Blacks!

America is the boggywoggiest place in the world.

But...the racist who you paraphrase with "Whites cannot rape Blacks!" is a black professor at the predominantly black NCCU.

Boggywoggy, fer shure!

It's interesting to watch the WaPo report on this story. In truth, as you can probably imagine, the opinions at NCCU are more diverse than reflected in this Sunday-no-new-news story.

Surely in Nigeria, as in the US, it's better to see if particular individuals are guilty of a crime before you convict them?

I hope you get a chance to visit Durham NC someday. It's a good-hearted place.

Anonymous,
I only want to draw more attention to this interesting story for public enlightenment. As you can see that the opening quote of the racist insult by one of the suspects says it all. The Black professor only referred to the erroneous psyche of many American Whites.

Thanks for the pitch for Durham NC. But, America is not my first destination for tourism. The alarming crimes in America are scary. Where kids can just go on rampage shooting and killing their fellow pupils. Such crimes are unheard of in Nigeria. The crime rate in New York City for a month is more than the crime rate in one year in Nigeria. Nigeria is 100 times safer than America.

God bless.

Well, Orikinla, I had to come back and see if you'd commented, and you had.

One of the reasons I haven't been to Nigeria is because I worry about the crime. Well, my mother worries about the crime, and I worry about my mother. But I expect I'll go someday, and I look forward to it.

It's hard to know what to think of that quote, which a neighbor alleged he heard. It's been confirmed by both the lacrosse team and the second exotic dancer that inside, racial insults were flying during an argument over money. At the same time, it's also clear that the women left some things behind.

I've been thinking, won't it be funny if the much-quoted line about the shirt was literally about a shirt?

I can imagine that... maybe the woman had come in wearing a long sleeved shirt-- it's cold here in March. If in the argument one of the men had said, "Do what we're asking or I won't give you this shirt back." The dancer replies, "That's not my shirt, it's my grandfather's!" As she leaves, the man shouts...

Well, I'm not saying that's what happened, I'm saying wouldn't it be funny if that line turned out not to be one of the evening's racist slurs.

Ah, well. Don't trust the news: despite journalists' posturing, in the end the news is about one thing: selling advertisements. America's not so dangerous, Durham's not on the brink of race riots, the sun keeps shining, and for all its ups and downs, it is certainly an interesting time to be living!

Anonymous,
I am an American at heart from all you must have read on my blogs. And in truth, Americans were God sent to me when my father died and again when my mother died and the dollars I earned working on projects under the USAID helped to save my bereaved family from financial and social embarrassment and harassment. And somewhere in the Library of Congress I have a song that nobody would believe it if someone said it was composed by a Nigerian youth and recorded in Hollywood in 1984.

Durham should be a nice location for musical videos and films.

God bless.
