Top Entertainment Stories of 2007

Amy Winehouse is (allegedly) on drugs! Paris Hilton in out in out of jail! Scary Spice pregnant with Eddie Murphy's baby! Kanye stomps 50 Cent in album sales! It sure has been an eventful 2007 in the entertainment world.

The constant theme for this year has been the celebrity train wreck. Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, David Hasslehoff, and so on and so forth. Celebrities just couldn't seem to keep it together in the 07. They were either in jail, in rehab, on the front of a tabloid magazine in an unflattering photo or being dragged to court to fight for custody of their children.

Other people, like Eddie Murphy and 50 Cent, had a little diarrhea of the mouth.

Eddie Murphy swore up and down that the baby Scary Spice (Mel B.) was carrying was NOT his, despite the fact that a few weeks earlier, there were paparazzi photos of the two together out and about. Poor Scary Spice had her name dragged through the mud by Eddie Murphy making her out to be some kind of desperate gold digger. But in the end, she was vindicated. Eddie Murphy was found to be the daddy and he didn't seem very pleased about it. And the Spice Girls reunited in 07, so things turned out all right in the end for Scary.

50 Cent, wisely, cooked up a marketing campaign by pitting himself as Kanye's rival on 9/11/07. The two rappers were both releasing their albums that day and 50 had already released two unsuccessful singles. So what else could he do to turn the spotlight on himself? Drum up some drama. He attacked Kanye viciously, mocked Kanye's music and even went so far as to say that he would retire if his sales were lower than Kanye's. Well, Kanye walloped 50 in the first week sales but unfortunately, 50 didn't retire. Either way, the showdown was one of the top Hip hop stories of the year.

Earlier in the year, in what seems like so long ago, an American Idol reject had her comeuppance. Jennifer Hudson was a loser on American Idol, but at the Oscars she was a winner, winning the Osar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie in "Dreamgirls." Whether or not this win can propel her career to the big leagues is yet to be seen, but it was the Cinderella story of the year.

Enjoy and look back at the year that was 2007 in Entertainment.

The Most Overpaid Celebrities

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2008 to you all.

As the year 2007 is about to end, it is good to review how we have fared since January to date and see how much we have achieved. The Forbes feature on
"The Most Overpaid Celebrities" is worth reading and hoping that you are going to be as successful as you wish in your own chosen career.

FORBES REPORTS:

Los Angeles - Once you’re in Hollywood's A-list earnings club, it’s hard to get kicked out, no matter how badly your films perform at the box office.

Case in point: Oscar winner Nicole Kidman. She earned an estimated $15 million for her latest film, The Golden Compass, known around the studio lot these days as the biggest turkey of 2007. It grossed a dreary $26 million when it debuted stateside last weekend, though its reported budget flirted with $200 million. (That's Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings territory.) The film garnered a respectable $55 million overseas since its release, but it's unlikely the international box office will salvage this expensive pic.

"OpraHullabaloo!"

From MSNBC: Oprahpalooza for Barack Obama

The American news media went into a state of frenzy over the Oprah Winfrey Road Show in support of the only black presidential candidate, Senator Barack Hussein Obama of the Democratic Party and after the media uproar, I have coined the word "OpraHullabaloo".

"OpraHullabaloo" means the hullabaloo of Oprah Winfrey in Campaign 2008.

According to Wikipedia:
The word "hullabaloo" is an English noun meaning an uproar or fuss.

Wikipedia also referred to the short lived Disney's "Hullabaloo and Harold" show based on the adventures of Hullabaloo the Orangatang and his Human friend Harold. They would travel back in time and learn lessons about History.

That was what Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama did at their political rallies in Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire, as they ranted about the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and the quest for an African American president.

OpraHullabaloo!

'Surviving the Hollywood Blacklist: Lessons for the 21st Century'

11 Dec 2007 00:06 Africa/Lagos

'Surviving the Hollywood Blacklist: Lessons for the 21st Century'

Presented by the Writers Guilds of America and the National Press Club

WASHINGTON, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being issued by the Writers Guilds of America:

WHAT: A National Press Club "Newsmaker" panel discussion marking the 60th anniversary of the Hollywood Blacklist. Two notable blacklisted artists and two historians will reflect on this controversial episode in our nation's history and discuss the lessons learned.

Panelists will include Oscar-nominated blacklisted screenwriter and author Walter Bernstein; blacklisted actress Marsha Hunt; noted historian and author Victor Navasky, as well as WGAE President and television historian Michael Winship.

WHO: Walter Bernstein - An Oscar-nominated screenwriter, Mr. Bernstein was blacklisted in the early 1950s, and forced to work under a pseudonym until 1960, when he again began receiving screenwriting credits for films including Fail Safe. In 1977, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the motion picture The Front, starring Woody Allen as a man who acts as a front for blacklisted screenwriters. Mr. Bernstein is a current member of the Writers Guild of America, East Council.

Marsha Hunt - Ms. Hunt made her acting debut in 1935, appearing in 52 films until 1949, but her career was curtailed when she was blacklisted for her pronounced liberal views and her affiliation with the Committee for the First Amendment. In October 1947, she flew with the group of about thirty actors, directors, writers and filmmakers (including John Huston, Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart) to Washington, D.C. to protest the actions of the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Victor Navasky - Long-time editor and publisher of The Nation (now Publisher Emeritus), and author of Naming Names, which won a National Book Award, Mr. Navasky is recognized as one of the foremost scholars of the blacklist. Mr. Navasky wrote Naming Names after interviewing more than 150 people who had been called to testify in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Michael Winship - Currently President of the Writers Guild of America, East, Mr. Winship is an award-winning writer and producer on such programs as NOW with Bill Moyers. Winship is a television historian who knew several of the writers whose lives were shattered by the blacklist including Ring Lardner, Jr. and Ian McLellan Hunter, as well as Walter Bernstein.

The Young Stars of "The Kite Runner" Moved To A Secret Location After Receiving Death Threats

The Young Stars of "The Kite Runner" Moved To A Secret Location After Receiving Death Threats

By Steven Zeitchik

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The young stars of "The Kite Runner" may have been moved to a secret location after receiving death threats, but now the tricky part really begins for the film's distributor: Packaging a foreign-language movie with weighty themes and no stars as a mainstream release.

The DreamWorks production, which is being released through Paramount Vantage, the Afghanistan- and U.S.-set tale opens Friday in limited release before expanding during the coming weeks. And it poses one of the most fraught challenges of any movie this fall as Paramount Pictures' specialty division tries to turn what was an unlikely best-seller about friendship and ethnic strife into a big-screen blockbuster.

Hovering over it is a Vantage release from earlier in the year, "A Mighty Heart," which took on a similar part of the world with more obvious commercial elements (Angelina Jolie and a ubiquitous Mariane Pearl) but earned just $15 million at the box office.

The result has been to make "Kite Runner" a marketing anomaly, with the company taking a grassroots approach that has focused on elements most major rollouts ignore.
It has hosted dozens of screenings for book clubs and in the heartland (literally, in the case of the Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis); has embraced an unusual publicity figure in Khaled Hosseini, who wrote the book on which the movie is based; and thrown fundraisers with Afghani expats.

Vantage has embarked on its campaign with a dearth of TV spots and trailers. "The English-language portions of the film don't lend themselves to clips, and the Dari (language) will put some people off, so word-of-mouth is all you have," said one executive with knowledge of the campaign.

Or as an executive at another studio said: "The only thing you can do with a movie like this is screen the hell out of it."

In a way, Vantage was put in this position because of circumstances beyond its control. Eager to avoid the wide release of "Mighty Heart," the company planned a slow burn for the Marc Forster picture, with "Kite Runner" slotted for an early November opening and then carefully rolling out through year's end.

New Yorkers say 'I Love Holiday Time in the City'

My friend Manuel, a top music producer in New York

New Yorkers say 'I Love Holiday Time in the City'

Even with the added crowds and traffic, four in five New Yorkers say they love New York City during the holidays; Two in three think their town is the place to visit and add there is nothing better than their city from Thanksgiving Day through New Year's Day

Times Square

NEW YORK, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ --

With the air of the holidays fresh upon their city's streets, nine in ten New Yorkers say they shrug off the added crowds and traffic as part of the traditions that make New York City more memorable during the holidays. In fact, a survey conducted by Braun Research for Bank of America reveals that New Yorkers actually find the tourist's holiday spirit quite contagious.

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050720/CLW086LOGO-b )

-- Four in five New Yorkers say they "love holiday time" in New York City;
-- Two-thirds think New York City's "the place to visit" during the
holidays;
-- And while 70 percent say visiting the city during the holidays can be
stressful, near overwhelming, two in three say "there is nothing better

than New York City" from Thanksgiving Day through New Year's Day.

"The New York Holiday Survey tells us that New Yorkers are just as apt to revel in their city and even relish donning the tourist's hat during the holidays," said Jeff Barker, Consumer Executive of the Metro New York Division of Bank of America. "Two in three come in for typical sightseeing activities such as shopping and events. More than half visit at least a few times. And, one in five says they visit at least once a week. In the city that has it all, it seems even New Yorkers can't get enough."

What more do BankAmericard(R) New York Holiday Survey respondents look for from their city during the holidays?

A place to relax: Four in five seek out places to put up their feet
up, relax and recharge

Restrooms! Another four in five hope for clean restrooms
without the crowds

Kids too, please: Half look for kid friendly pit-stop destinations

Wine and Dine: Half also intend to come in and dine out

Then Tour: 46 percent intend to see Rockefeller Center's tree
42 percent to tour the retail stores' holiday
windows

Shop till You Drop: 39 percent plan to shop Midtown, 31 percent
Downtown

Toss the plans: 71 percent say part of the fun is keeping the visit
spontaneous, un-planned and last minute

Pamper me: 70 percent desire a concierge that reserves them hot

tickets and even hotter-dinner reservations

'Tis Better to Give: Nine in ten say give a gift that makes someone's
wish come true

Bank of America commissioned the BankAmericard(R) New York Holiday Survey in connection with the BankAmericard(R) Gift on Fifth. Open through Sunday, December 2 at 36th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, the BankAmericard Gift on Fifth provides a public-access shoppers lounge that caters to every New York holiday visitor need with free giveaways (e.g., hot cocoa and coffee, reusable tote bags), amenities (e.g., public rest rooms, family-styled seating, play area for children) and even complimentary services (e.g., gift wrapping, tourist concierge, massage therapy). As homage to the famed New York department store annual tradition, The BankAmericard Gift on Fifth also features four special holiday window displays to entertain and delight passersby.

About the BankAmericard(R) New York Holiday Survey

Conducted by Braun Research via telephone from November 9 - 13, the BankAmericard(R) New York Holiday Survey captured responses of 500 New Yorkers concerning their favorite activities in and feelings about New York City during the holidays (from Thanksgiving Day through New Year's Day). "New Yorkers" were defined as individuals who reside in the New York metro area (i.e., Manhattan, the Outer Boroughs, Long Island, Westchester, other New York counties, New Jersey and Connecticut). More than 40 percent of respondents live in one of the five boroughs, nearly one-third in New Jersey, nearly one- quarter in a New York county, and less than five percent in Connecticut. 25 percent of respondents work in Manhattan. The margin of error is +/- 4 percent.

Sorry Oprah, Obama is Not the Man

The leadership of America is more than a TV Talk Show and we are not going to be swayed by any pep talk based on myopic racial sentiments. American voters are not dummies, because they are more intelligent than Oprah Winfrey thinks.

Sorry Oprah, Obama is Not the Man

Why are you swaying your hips behind Senator Barack Obama?
Is because he is black or what?

Oprah can sway millions of her TV viewers to watch her TV Show, because it is entertainment, but Oprah cannot sway millions of American voters to vote for an African-American man who thinks a woman cannot lead America?

Lest we forget, Oprah Winfrey once misled millions of her fans into buying and reading a fake book!

Oprah Laments Over Scandal in Her School in South Africa

'TARGET: Caught in the Crosshairs of Bill and Hillary Clinton'

Kathleen Willey's New White House Shocker

'TARGET: Caught in the Crosshairs of Bill and Hillary Clinton'

NEW YORK, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --

Kathleen Willey, a former White House Aide who says Bill Clinton groped her in the Oval Office, is available for interviews. Her new book: "Target: Caught in the Crosshairs of Bill and Hillary Clinton," published by World Ahead, was released TODAY, Nov 6.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20071106/DC06572)

Willey's book contains explosive revelations that could damage Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, including accusations of campaign finance violations and new revelations about harassment and threats by the Clintons and their associates. Willey also identifies the person who threatened her just prior to her testimony against President Clinton -- a man who turned out to be linked to the Clintons.

Last September, Willey was the target of an unusual house burglary that nabbed a manuscript for her book, while little else was taken from her rural Virginia home.

The break-in, she said, reminded her of the widely reported incident 10 years ago in which she was threatened near the same Richmond-area home by a stranger just two days before she was to testify against President Clinton in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case. Willey believes the recent break-in and theft were prompted by the teasers of her book's contents published that week in U.S. News and World Report's "Washington Whispers" column and the New York Daily News.

Willey says she wrote the book because of persistent misunderstanding about what happened 10 years ago.

"There is so much misinformation out there..." she said. "I now have the opportunity to set the record straight."

Willey points out that her story was deemed credible by the FBI, Independent Counsel Ken Starr and CBS "60 Minutes" producers who allowed her to recount it in front of 29 million viewers.

Another shameless and desperate American woman, by the name of Kathleen Willey, a former White House Aide who says Bill Clinton groped her has released her book meant to slander the Clintons at this crucial period of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's Presidential Campaign. But as Monica Lewinsky failed woefully, this Kathleen Willey will also fail woefully.

WOW! Bill Clinton groped me whilst he was the President of the United States of America!
What a great revelation!
Write a book about it.
Finis.
These lunatic fringe elements can always tell and sell their garbage and there are millions of gullible people who eat such garbage, but that does not mean their garbage is not rubbish.
As we say in the literary world, perish the rubbish.

Florida Federal Court Closes Lawsuit Brought by Women Against Girls Gone Wild

Florida Federal Court Closes Lawsuit Brought by Women Against Girls Gone Wild

Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis Prevails Against Another Frivolous Lawsuit by Women Filmed At A Spring Break Party

PENSACOLA, Fla., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ --

Following the withdrawal in a Florida federal court two weeks ago of a case filed by two women against Girls Gone Wild and Joe Francis, another federal district court in Florida issued a closure in two other lawsuits brought by Heather Marie Kotis, Rachel Christine Mill, Julie Tilton, Nicole Breitfeller and Tabitha Gautreaux against Mantra Films and ordered that the cases be closed.

The women alleged that Mantra Films, which produces the wildly popular "Girls Gone Wild" videos, filmed the women during a daytime spring break wet T-shirt contest at a Florida hotel pool in 2001, and then distributed images of the women on a "Girls Gone Wild" (GGW) videotape. The women never identified a single GGW video containing their images.

Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis says that Girls Gone Wild never filmed these girls or included their images in any video! "This is yet another example of people trying to make money by bringing false and frivolous charges against Girls Gone Wild and me," Francis says.

The case stems from an event held at a Daytona Beach hotel in 2001 that featured a wet T-shirt contest. The contest was held in the middle of the day in front of thousands of spectators, many of whom captured the contest on their cameras and videocameras. Images from the event taken by others make it apparent that contest participants knew they were being videotaped by numerous spectators. Nevertheless, the women filed suit against the hotel, a corporate sponsor, the promoter of the event, a video company that filmed the event and Mantra Films, asking for millions in damages.

In a companion case, summary judgment was granted in favor of several other corporate defendants including Playboy magazine, who the plaintiffs sought to find liable for publishing and distributing images of the event. Because the federal court found in favor of the defendants, the women agreed to stay their lawsuit against Mantra Films and the federal court ordered that the cases against Mantra Films be closed.

"It's apparent that a certain segment of our society has adopted a get rich quick scheme through frivolous litigation," say Francis's attorney, David R. Houston. "We are pleased the court in this matter refused to issue the plaintiffs a golden ticket based upon plaintiff's actions and misrepresentations."

Lawyers for Family Say Witness Who Changed Story in Notorious B.I.G. Case Clearly Lied About Pay-Off Offer

Lawyers for Family Say Witness Who Changed Story in Notorious B.I.G. Case Clearly Lied About Pay-Off Offer

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ --

Documents filed in Federal court here today by the estate of murdered rap superstar Christopher Wallace (better known as the Notorious B.I.G.) show that convicted murderer Waymond Anderson was "committing demonstrable perjury" -- that is, clearly lying -- when he accused the Wallace family; its lead attorney, Perry R. Sanders, Jr.; and several other individuals of witness tampering in connection with their wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles.

In a 20-plus-page motion, the Wallace estate asked for access to Anderson's phone and prison-visitation records for the last ten years, arguing that these records will reveal who and what was behind Anderson's "wholesale assault on the truth" -- and in the process "shed light" on who was responsible for Wallace's still unsolved murder.

Anderson made what the motion calls his "outrageous under-oath allegations" in an August 20, 2007, deposition in which he unexpectedly recanted previous statements he had made to Los Angeles Police Department investigators long before the Wallace estate sued the city. His prior statements implicated former LAPD officers Rafael Perez and David Mack in Wallace's murder.

Anderson also claimed in the deposition that he and a fellow inmate named Kenneth Boagni who was serving time with him at Corcoran state prison personally participated in conversations with Perry Sanders and LAPD officers Russell Poole and Ya-May Christle, in which they supposedly conspired to falsely implicate LAPD officers in the murder.

Today's filing includes certified prison records that prove none of this could possibly be true since the only time Anderson and Bogani were at Corcoran together -- and thus could have had such conversations -- was between Feb 27 and June 20, 2001. During that time period, none of the people Anderson accused of being part of the "scam" had anything to do with the Wallace case.

Indeed, as the official court record shows, there was no Wallace lawsuit during this time period and the estate had not even hired an attorney. Perry Sanders wasn't hired by the Wallace family until July 2001, and the estate's civil suit was not filed until 2002. Moreover, Officer Poole had retired in 1999 and Officer Christle didn't start working on the Wallace case until 2005.

Anderson also testified in the August 20 deposition that he witnessed Bogani and another inmate, Mario Hammonds, conspiring at Corcoran to make up stories tying Perez, Mack, and former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight to the murder. Time-dated documents and statements attached to today's filing belie this claim, since they show that both Boagni and Hammonds gave such statements to the LAPD long before Feb 27, 2001, the earliest Anderson could have witnessed such a conspiracy.

In short, none of the individuals named by Anderson was in a position to do what he claims they did at the time he claims they did it. As the filing notes, "Although it is typically difficult to prove a negative, Anderson provided an empirical time line that allows Plaintiffs to do so."

The filing also makes a case for third-party involvement in Anderson's "wholesale" perjury. "It seems clear that Anderson's outrageous under-oath allegations about innocent people were intended to intimidate the victims of his perjury and to attempt to provide a defamation-proof vehicle for wide dissemination of lies in the media in a way so as to negatively affect public sentiment and the jury pool," the filing notes. "Anderson alone has no such obvious motive, which ... indicates third-party involvement."

And it adds: "The things Plaintiffs and Plaintiffs' counsel have had to endure in this litigation go beyond the pale of what anyone engaged in civil litigation should have to endure while availing themselves of their constitutional rights of access to a Federal Court."

Beauty and the Grumpy: Angelina Jolie Makes Donald Trump Turn Red

Grumpy old dandy Donald Trump dissed pretty and sexy Angelina Jolie on Larry King Live.
I hissed at his ignorant analysis of beauty and petty ego-centric remarks.

Millions of refugees in Africa can figure who is Angelina Jolie, but the only Donald they know is a duck in an American cartoon.

Donald "the Duck" Trump is just turning red out of petty jealousy.

The Silent Treatment - What You Are Saying By Not Saying Anything At All

The Silent Treatment - What You Are Saying By Not Saying Anything At All

By Ken Savage of Ken Savage Making IT in Massachusetts

Probably at one time or another you have been either on the giving or receiving end of a silent treatment, otherwise known as the cold shoulder. What you probably didn’t realize is that the silent treatment is a form of ostracism. When someone is ostracized it affects the part of their brain called the anterior cingulate cortex. Do you know what the anterior cingulate cortex does?

The anterior cingulate cortex is the part of the brain that detects pain. When you give someone the silent treatment you are causing that person physical pain. Simply by ignoring someone else’s existence you can inflict pain on them. This is what the ever popular “time out” with a child is so effective. The child feels ostracized, therefore is feeling pain even though no physical pain was inflicted on them, and therefor they want to behave so they don’t have to feel that way again.

The silent treatment can be a very destructive behavior when it involves personal relationships. Let’s say with a husband and wife for instance. The silent treatment breeds bitterness on both ends and it borders on emotional abuse…I’m not making that up to be dramatic. That’s what “they” say.

Cooling Off And Ostracizing Are Two Very Different Things

Let’s not confuse the silent treatment with something known as “the cooling off period”. The cooling off period is where one person is so angry or disgusted by the other person that they just cannot deal with the situation in that state need time to calm down before they begin to speak to this person. That’s fine and actually that’s probably better than sitting and screaming at each other.

There is a big difference between taking some time to cool down and outright ignoring the existence of the other person. The silent treatment would be more along the lines of you doing something that pisses someone off, they clue you in on it (or not), and then they don’t speak to you, acknowledge you or even make eye contact with you for sometimes days. No good.

To me, this is a form of torture. Nothing positive comes from this type of behavior. What makes more sense…blowing up about something, cooling off a little and then talking about how to resolve it OR not blowing up about something, staying completely pissed and not doing anything to help resolve the situation? If you said the latter…you’re a dick.

When someone is administering the silent treatment they are trying to show that they are dominant over you. The silent treatment (when it becomes a mutual one) is a power struggle in pain tolerance…whomever the winner is, cares less.

When You Are On The Receiving End Of The Silent Treatment

It’s interesting to me that research has shown that woman and men respond to the silent treatment very differently. Woman who are on the receiving end of the silent treatment seem to try anything in their power to win back their good grace with the ostracize where men…don’t. They just deal with it.

But what exactly are the men just dealing with and the woman trying to avoid? The emotional pain associated with being ostracized. Those who have been treated to the silent treatment have reported as sense of loss, of not belonging, of lower self-esteem and a feeling of unworthiness. All of these feelings are the result of someone just not acknowledging them or ignoring them. I find that pretty interesting.

I can say that I honestly don’t ever remember giving someone the silent treatment…not anyone that it would matter to anyway. I don’t think I have it in me to do that to someone. Why you ask? Because I’ve had it done to me, I know what it feels like and it totally sucks. I’m more the type of person that would like to blow up about something, probably say some things I don’t really mean, apologize for saying the things I don’t really mean and then move towards resolution. But hey…that’s just me.

9 Months Later

9 Months Later

Jack decided to go skiing with his buddy, Bob. So they loaded up Jack's minivan and headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. So they pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night.

"I realize it's terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I'm recently widowed," she explained. "I'm afraid the neighbors will talk if I let you stay in my house."

"Don't worry," Jack said. "We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light." The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the
night. Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing.

But about nine months later, Jack got an unexpected letter from an attorney. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow he had met on the ski weekend.

He dropped in on his friend Bob and asked, "Bob, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north about 9 months ago?"

"Yes, I do." Said Bob.

"Did you, er, happen to getup in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?"

"Well, um, yes!," Bob said, a little embarrassed about being found out, "I have to admit that I did."
"And did you happen to give her my name instead of telling her your name?"

Bob's face turned beet red and he said,
"Yeah, look, I'm sorry, buddy. I'm afraid I did." "Why do you ask?"

"She just died and left me everything."

(And you thought the ending would be different, didn't you?... you know you smiled...now keep that smile for the rest of the day!)

'Where Science Meets Fiction': Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival

Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival Builds on Its Triumph of 15 Amazing Years in Paris With Its Inaugural U.S. Festival, Dec. 5-16 in Los Angeles

'Where Science Meets Fiction,' JVAFF Celebrates on Dec. 6 With a Green Carpet Event at the Shrine Honoring Ted Turner and Jean-Michel Cousteau

Also: a Tribute to William Shatner, a Super-Tribute to Spiderman Creator Stan Lee, Titanic's 10th Anniversary and NBC'S TV Hit Heroes Live on Stage!

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ --

Building on 15 successful years in Paris, France the Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival (JVAFF) will launch its inaugural -- and 1st annual -- run in Los Angeles on Dec. 5. Bearing no resemblance to any other film festival in the world, JVAFF is an extravaganza of exploration, conservation, imagination and education that previous honoree Harrison Ford has called, "the next adventure ... The one we all need ... The festival is a genuine celebration of the planet." Star-studded and inspiring events and programming will run through Dec. 16 at two pre-eminently historic venues, the Shrine Auditorium and the Los Angeles Theatre.

On 12/5, day one of this "Ultimate Event Where Science Meets Fiction," the Shrine hosts Jules Verne Day, an educational fair and exhibition for students and youth with over 3,000 attending for free. Festivities kick into high gear the evening of 12/6, with the Festival's gala green carpet Opening Ceremony and Awards. JVAFF's French creators, Jean Christophe Jeauffre and Frederic Dieudonne, with event emcee Malcolm McDowell will welcome the 2007 Jules Verne Award Honorees, philanthropist/entrepreneur/environmentalist Ted Turner (Spirit of Nature Award) and explorer-filmmaker Jean-Michel Cousteau (Lifetime Achievement Award).

"JVAFF came about 15 years ago with support from Jacques Cousteau," says co-founder Jeauffre, "based on the idea of exploring and preserving the planet. This was years before global warming, yet there was already the idea that change was urgently needed. The Festival has grown into something where science meets fiction -- it's about re-imagining ourselves, our way of life and our future for the better. Building the energy to restore the planet is the greatest adventure of all time, a true celebration of life, and we can come together to act on it. Like Jules Verne, whose generation faced the unknown frontiers of the industrial revolution, we are living in profoundly exciting times."

The Festival's film selections will underscore these ideas, presenting select premieres, classic films and over thirty documentaries discovering the world from the depths of The Abyss to the heavens above. Documentary highlights include the Jules Verne Adventures film Explorers: From the Titanic to the Moon, starring Oscar-winner James Cameron and astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

Other special presentations include John Woo's new animated Sci-Fi tour de force Ex-Machina, a 25th anniversary screening of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, and a major Titanic 10th Anniversary event with James Cameron on 12/8. The Shrine's epic main auditorium will host the major green carpet events including screenings in High-Definition Digital and a full-day of exclusive 3D presentations. In the Shrine Expo Center, the Jules Verne Movie Lounge, designed as a first-class ship's cabin, will feature diverse screenings, Q&As and special events. Attendees of JVAFF programs and films at the Los Angeles Theatre, inaugurated by Charlie Chaplin in 1931, will experience another landmark building restored to its original glory.

In addition to the Titanic fete, a number of other certain to be hot-ticket events will take place over the course of JVAFF's 12-day run. Dec. 9, JVAFF's closing night at the Shrine, marks the presentation of a Jules Verne Lifetime Achievement Award to William Shatner, who rose to fame as Star Trek's legendary Captain Kirk. Awards for the best documentary films of the year will also be given out. Earlier that day, the Festival will premiere -- on the Shrine's big screen -- HD-remastered editions of episodes from the classic Star Trek series.

On the Festival's final day, Dec. 15, the legendary Stan Lee -- creator of Spider-Man, X-Men and other immortal superheroes -- will receive his Jules Verne Lifetime Achievement Award at the Los Angeles Theatre. Continuing the super-tribute theme through closing night, JVAFF will present NBC's hit series Heroes live onstage. Expected to attend are creator Tim Kring, writer-producer Jeph Loebb and the show's stars.

Jules Verne Adventures was founded in Paris in 1991 by filmmakers and explorers Jean-Christophe Jeauffre and Frederic Dieudonne as a nonprofit organization dedicated to exploration, discovery and education and a collective mission to honor and preserve the planet. JVAFF was conceived to inspire and enlighten the human spirit about the mysteries and wonders of the universe with unprecedented spectacle, style and passion. Since 1992, the festival has taken place annually in Paris at the Grand Rex, the largest movie theatre in Europe. In 2006, a gala one-night preview event for this year's first full-scale U.S. Festival took place at the Shrine, and their massive proscenium was re-christened the Jules Verne Stage. That evening, film legends George Lucas and Harrison Ford and primatologist Jane Goodall were Jules Verne Award honorees.

Past honoree James Cameron has said, "The Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival is unique. It helps celebrate the spirit of adventure and of exploration. This is what we need now and for the future." Los Angeles, a city that in many ways has "seen it all," is about to get a glimpse of something completely new when JVAFF takes residence on Dec. 5.
